    Pink Flamingos
    1 p.m. Saturday, June 22
    Gazebo Stage

Another early one — the Pink Flamingos are first up on the Gazebo Stage on Day 2. If a blues/punk sound with a sing-a-long approach is more your thing, then Pink Flamingos is for you. This band has a fairly modern sound, making it particularly accessible to the indie rock fans among us. Definitely a grooving band, so a little early-afternoon dancin’ may be in order for this group.

Nelson Park has had over 30 large shade trees cut down from the Emerald Ash Bore damage they suffered. There are many deserving areas. We hope to make a positive future impact, and it all starts with one tree!

The Bosswood Tree Initiative is a commitment to action in the effort to establish maturing trees in needed areas. Our current project is an event set for Arbor Day 2013. The main tree planting effort will be held the following day, 4/27/13, which is a Saturday. We will need shovels and refreshments, volunteers and donations.

  13. It was fun doing “Into the Red-Gray Sky with Holly and Dick. Holly wrote a song that was perfectly in my range. If you listen to it you will immediately know why.

  14. Press Release:

Here come The Pink Flamingos again with album #3 or should we say 2.5? It’s our 1st EP after 2 successful LP Releases. “Into the Red Gray Sky” is the 1st single to be released from The Pink Flamingos’ “Lucies Diamonds Show”. “We’re releasing “Into the Red Gray Sky” earlier than the rest of the EP to coincide with OSU Buckeye football season and the lyrics pertaining to winter’s approach.” The song will release to radio next week.

“You know I love The Beatles.” I’m taking the idea of Sgt. Pepper’s and the alter ego band for an in between LP’s concept. “Lucies Diamonds” is a folk rock trio made up of 3 Columbus, OH singer-songwriters: Holly Olsen, Jim Fuller and Dick Plunk. The 3 songwriters met at the Espresso Yourself Music Café’ in Powell, Ohio at a writer’s group headed by Dick Plunk. We played our 1st performances together at tribute shows to help the Café during financial hardship.

The name came about from the “John Lennon” Tribute where we performed “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” among some other John Lennon written songs.

Holly Olsen, the lead singer and songwriter for “The Pink Flamingos” rock band is the writer of all songs on this EP. The rock band contributes one song to the project. “I love music from the 60’s and the retro sounds show up over and over on my records. This time I procured authentic 60’s musicians. I wanted to get recordings of the original songs that I had written and performed with Jim and Dick over the last 2 years. “

The rest of Lucies Diamonds’ Bio:

Dick Plunk playing banjo and rhythm guitar on the record was in a 1960’s group “Liberty Singers”. The folk pop quintet played together while attending the U. of Arizona and is known for their harmonic singing style like “The Association” and the “New Chrysty Minstrel Singers”. The group played together in the mid to late 60’s until all but 1 member was enlisted in the Vietnam War. The Liberty Singers had a number of studio recordings as well as recording in a local bank lobby for the natural reverb sound.

Jim Fuller playing lead guitar and singing lead on “Into the Red Gray Sky” joined his first band at 14, playing with “D & The Starliners”, “The Robbs” and then in 1963 with R&B band “The Verticals”. “The Verticals” out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin sometimes backed “Twistin Harvey” a popular local act as well as opening for acts such as “Chubby Checker” and “The Four Seasons”. “We had it all, the suits, the haircuts, the style…We just combed our hair the wrong way” says Jim.

Al Folk, former Pink Flamingos drummer, played all drum tracks on the Lucies Diamonds songs on the recording.

    More information to come,

    • I’d like to mention the sound engineers on this record who did an outstanding job, Joe Lambert, Joey Gurwin (Oranjudio Studios) and Matt Gangi (out in California on mastering).
